A Quick Update... (Sian)

We seem to have stopped writing so much as our lives in Melbourne get more and more "normal!" This is a quick over veiw of what we have been up to - Finally went to a great club in Prahan, it was a brilliant night with one of the best DJ's I have heard. We've been working a bit, going to the gym and frequenting the Shanghai Dumpling and noodle house rather alot! The highlight of the most recent weekend was Steve's birthday party (photo's to follow) Which was great fun! Amanda managed to down a bottle of wine, we all drank some rather strange shots with schnapps and Baileys and all got rather sozzled! The next day was a complete right off, Steve and I spent the whole day watching DVD's!
Melbourne hosted the AFL grand final on Saturday, a rather strange game with a round pitch, an odd shaped ball and lots of muscly men. As our favourite team were wiped out of the game last week, we didn't watch it. However we could not escape football fever, as whenever we turn on the radio or Tv, or open a news paper it is all there!
It is less than a week now until we will be off on our travels again, that'll be great fun. Mrs Glenny will be here in 3 days hopefully not suffering from too much Jet Lag. Updates to follow...

Ouch, My Knees!!! (Sian)

Yesterday we drove for 3.5 hours to Mount Buller where we snow boarded for the first time. I was very nervous and scared! The fist time up the chair lift I flunked out, and waited and the bottom of the hill for Steve who fell most of the way down to come and save me! We decided to take a lesson and for 2 hours I managed to get down the hill slowly ungraciously, and backwards! For some reason the only way I could stand up was by facing the wrong way and then couldn't get the confidence to turn around again! Steve was brilliant and the best in our class by far, he soon mastered it and was sliding down the hill in no time.
Today I ache in muscles I never knew I had, but feel it was worth it. It's ashame the season has ended here as I am sure we would make our way back out for more torture! (There's always next year...)
I am really surprised that we could ski in Australia, I thought it was a warm country! Think we'll head down to the coast and check out surfing soon!

Ballarat. (Steve)

Occured to me that I haven't written an entry on this for ages (apart from all the pictures). Shame really that owing to the fact we live in the 'real world', in terms of working anyway, we dont get to go to as many places. The only we've done since the last post was a trip to Ballarat on a Friday off, with our Canadian friend Jennifer.

Ballarat is an old gold rush town, complete with all the cheesy but fun tourist places like Sovereign Hill where the pictures below are from. We failed to find any gold but Sian and Jen did get to make thier own lumpy candles, so the 120km drive each way was worth it. Only joking, it was a fun day out, pity that for safety reasons you cant go in the actual mines, only ones they made for us tourists. If it was in Asia, then we'd have had our miners hats on (without working light) and been right down the bottom in danger of drowning. I really miss the complete disregard for personal safety that you get in some places.

Oh well, feel compelled to mention how its winter here still yet we're getting 24 degrees C most days at the moment, roll on summer!!!!!!

Stuff and Raah (sian)

I am sitting here moaning about our sad miserable job we have to do for 8 weeks when all the fantastic stuff we have been up to has come tumbling back to me!

We headed to the Grampians for a weekend with a few friends (12 in total) and had a great time, sitting by a camp fire, looking at the wild life, struggling over rocks and walking through beautiful forests. We rented a cottage in Halls Gap where Kangaroos grazed in our back garden. Kookaburra's ate dog food given to them by our friendly cottage owner and parakeets squarked throughout the day. We strolled through some wonderful forests to glimpse at great views of the green Australian countryside.

We've also been catching up with AFL games now we know the rules and hanging out in Melbourne in general.

Can't wait for the next 8 weeks to pass as we have a great trip to Sydney, Tasmania and some of the East Coast planned...
