Hong Kong Fooey (Sian)

Hong Kong is great!
It is such a fun city and a great urban mix of east meets west. Neon signs adorn all the roads and even office blocks have flashing lights on the outside.
We met another traveller (Katy) on the bus to inner city from the air port. We have been hanging out with Katy ever since and she is fab!
Our accomodation here is strange. The guest houses are set amongst the most ugly tower block I have seen, it makes Hackney seem like a palace! That said it is really sweet inside even if we do have to shower whilst sitting on the toilet.
On our first night here we headed to a bar which had a happy hour. (which is great for our budget) After an hour we were really intrigued by the deafening sound of dice rattling around in shakers and joined Grey and Benny playing the dice game. It's a bit too long to explain, but it is a really cool drinking game, so needless to say Katy, Steve and I all managed to get really wrecked before we had even learned the rules of the game! We had a brilliant night though, and what topped it off was Grey paying for all our drinks and food at the end! (Some people are lovely!)
Yesterday we hit the Museums but not before some funky retro shopping. Katy is as big a shopperholic as I am so it was good fun! The shops here are fab too, full of excellent vintage wear and new funky design styles.
We took a scary tram ride up to the peak of Hong Kong in the afternoon and had great veiws of this fantastic city. We stayed for the evening and got some good snaps of the Hong Kong sky line. The tram took us up such a steep hill we were almost verticle in some places.
Today we have shopped a bit more (suprisingly). We have also been to a chineese temple which was really cute and very different from temples in Thailand. They even had Terrapins swimming in the ponds! We visited a flower market which was colourful, bright and smelt lovely! The flower market changed slowly in to a caged bird market which was really strange. Some of the birds were in really small cages with 2 or 3 birds. I felt it was a bit cruel, but then it is an ancient Chineese tradition so who am I to complain? The men who bought the caged birds were completely amazed by them and wondered down the street staring at their newly bought caged bird in complete wonderment!
It is slightly cooler here than all the pther countries we have visited and both Steve and I are enjoying wearing Jumpers, Coats, Jeans and Trainers! How sad are we?!
