Long necks and Golden Triangles?!?! (Steve)

12/3/05- Today starts at 6am, then 2 hours kip in the back of a car untill we get a half built temple which looks like something from Narnia. And not that interesting really.

Next up we go to the 'long neck' tribal village, which sounded great and we really wanted to go, but it was odd in the extreme. The 'village' was fairly new and it is explained to us that because of wars and stuff the tribe is better of in this place. So, we wander around and get the feeling that this is a human zoo, sounds odd but because the people there are not in their 'real' habitat (see, its like a zoo) it feels very fake and not quite right if you get what I mean. Look at the pictures for the long necks though, the brass rings actually push the shoulders down rather than extend the neck, nice, very fetching too dont you think?

After this we headed to the 'Golden Triangle' where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar all meet up and have afternoon tea. It isnt that nice a place bacause it's still being built. We did pop in to the Opium mueseum which was interesting. Dont think we'll be giving it a go though.

Just to prove how sad we are, we went to the Myanmar border, and thought it would be a good idea to leave Thailand for 10 minuetes just to get a stamp in our passports!! To make us feel less sad some Americans were doing the same thing, the authorities charge $5 for the priviledge though proving that many people are in fact as sad as us.

Our last stop was in some remote hills to visit the Royal Villa and gardens, couldnt be arsed with the villa but the gardens were lovely, it was like being home again, and made us want to go to sleep!!!

Leaving Thailand on the 15th and heading to Hong Kong, had a great time here but its time to move on. Spending tonight on a bus dreaming about comfy beds and pilllows......
