Underwater cameras (Steve)

As you'll see from the pics below, our trip to the Whitsundays two weeks ago was made even better by the use of an under-water camera. Strange and wonderful things are everywhere and whilst its a shame that I can't post the movie of us dancing underwater (MC Hammer running man), the pictures of everything else are still pretty good.

Whitsundays (Sian)

A couple of weekends ago we flew north of Melbourne to Townsville in Queensland where we were greeted by Emma Larby and her friend Paul!!!
We stopped in Townsville for a night and then headed on a road trip to Airlie beach, stopping on our way at the Billabong Sanctuary where not only did we all get to hold a croccodile but cuddle a Koala!
Once in Airlie we boarded 'Wings,' for a 3 day, 2 night snorkelling and diving adventure around the beautiful Whitsunday Islands.
We'd been on the boat for a couple of hours when we were asked if we wanted to Dive, well, wanting to try anything once, all 4 of us readily agreed, and after 30 minutes of learning the signals and want to do if you loose your mask we were 5 meters below sea level wondering in amazement at the coral and fish! Now I thought Snorkelling was great and that you couldn't get better than that, but Diving is fabulous, I actually felt like I was a fish! We saw a huge Maori Wrasse called Elvis who was just hanging out getting cleaned by all the little fish! The weekend got better and better... We spent an afternoon in Whitehaven Beach, a beautiful soft silica sandy beach. We dived for a second time, going 12 meters down it was just magical, we even discovered that you can dance under water, Emma and Steve do a great rendition of 'Hammer Time'
And we got to swim with Turtles!
Check out the pictures for some idea of what we got up too... I'm sure we'll add some more soon!

Christmas and New Year in OZ (Sian)

Another hot Christmas for us!!! (Kind of)
We spent Christmas day with 2 Canadians, (our dear friends Kevin and Amanda), and 5 other Brits (Em and Franc, and their cool friends). Needless to say, when you get 9 people together who all come from cold-ish countries, it rained and the wind blew! We had the great idea of having a pic-nic of cold turkey and salad on the beach. Now, this would've been great on a still day, however, the one day we want the sun to shine it blows a gale! We had a rather comical lunch, Franc managed to wear his and we had to catch and eat and stray bits of salad that flew past our heads! Still we had crackers, told some really bad jokes and then went for a swim - well the girls swam, whilst the wimpy boys wrapped them selves in towels and got covered in sand on the beach! Just as we were called back from the sea, and the desicion was made to go home, the sun came out and we managed to get in a game of charades and all got sun-burnt.... oooops. A great but bizare day was had by us all.
New year it was boiling!!! 42 degrees... it was like a sauna outside, and anytime we left the door open, our flat got hotter and hotter and hotter. Luckily, Kevin and Amanda took pity on us and invited us to their lovely air-conditioned flat, where we had a game of poker, which Steve won, and a few people had accidents with too much Sambuca (luckily not me!). At mid night we strolled down to the river front to watch some magnificent fire works and clapped the new year in... No Auld Lang Seine though! (Or burning Santa's like in India!). Needless to say on New Years day we sat around nursing hangovers and vowing never to drink again!
