Road trips are cool!! So is Australia.....(Steve)

As our last post was sometime ago and not the most positive one we've done, its really nice to be able to say that we have settled in much more now, and despite the fact that we have returned to reality, yes, we have jobs, and guess where? A Bank!! Who would've guessed???

This weekend was one of the best so far in Oz, and no alcohol involved. We decided a break from the city was in order, the famous Great Ocean Road is only 120kms from Melbourne so we hired a car and headed off on Saturday morning. The road stretches from Torquay all the way to Wannaburra (I think) some 300 kms towards Adelaide. It is without doubt the most exilerating road I have ever driven along (sadly in an automatic Mitsubishi Lancer) with shockingly stunning scenery, the pictures below dont really do any of it justice.

The sea off Southern Australia is very strong and has the best surfing in Oz, apparently. But as we cant do that we stared at the 'swells' and marvelled at the power of the sea, along with some very rugged coastline. The 12 Apostles were a wonderful sight, although you cant actually see all 12 unless you charter a helicopter nearby, a rather expensive option sadly.

Another stunning sight was the Bay of Martyrs another 100k's along, amazing in the dark!! We rented a log cabin in a trailer park (classy!!) and then found a pub in Boggy Creek, interestingly called Boggy Creek Pub, in the middle of nowhere, and I mean nowhere. Shame I had to drive really, as it would have been funny getting plastered with the locals who were staring at the 'strangers' in their watering hole, but never mind. Sunday morning and we start the long trek back to Melbourne, but not without stopping at a small wildlife park where we met and fed the inhabitants, who included: Parrots, Deer, Emus, Wallabies, Kangaroos, more Deer, more Kangaroos, a Koala (sleeping), Donkeys, Peacocks, Goats, a Dingo and a cute sleepy Possum!! Oh, and they did lovely Devonshire Tea and Scones as well-the owners that is. Never having hand fed a Kangaroo, a Fallow Deer or any of the others it was a cool way to finish the trip for 3 of us. Back to work tomorrow for another dose of 'real world', but its money isnt it??

Love to everyone who reads this, and get yer ass's down under, it cool!!
